Email to Task to Calendar

July 16, 2010 · By Lundie Pinner | No Comment

This isn’t a really new feature, but I’m finding it very handy today, so I thought I’d share!

You get an email, it has something you need to do at a later date.  While you’re in the email, just click “More Actions” and select “Add to Tasks”.  This will create a task in your list that is now automatically linked to that email.  Next, you can add a due date, change the description of the task if the subject from the email is not descriptive enough, and make any additional notes you’ll need.

Then, if you want a quick overview of what is on your plate for the day, you can either:

  1. Open your task box and click Actions / Sort by Due Date, or
  2. Open your calendar and select “Tasks” under “My Calendars”

(Now, if Google would just add the ability to add reminders to these tasks, we’d be in REAL business…)

Google resellers! (that’s us!)

We can hardly believe all the business that can be accomplished (not to mention the money that can be saved) with Google Apps!!

It’s no secret how much an enterprise can spend just for basic email. (uhhh, talk to your IT purchaser or AP person, but tread softly….) But it isn’t widely known how something like Gmail for Business along with Enterprise Apps can turn your ‘near upside-down’ IT budget right-side up. The amount of maintenance and server space a company needs in order to store and share docs internally can be daunting, as dollars fly out the window.  Google Docs, with Spreadsheet, Presentation, Calender leave us dumbfounded -and grateful – that all of this comes with a phenomenal, yet inexpensive enterprise email system! If you ask us, cloud computing is the cost savings of the century!

Now, there is no mistaking that the phrase “Cloud computing” has been around for a while now, but RemoteLink has been “in the cloud” before there were words for it!  Providing hosted applications for corporate America and small business owners has been a priority for us since our inception.  What has us really jazzed is this ‘new’ idea of cloud.  It’s bigger, more comprehensive and far more collaborative.

We’ve Moved…

…to the Cloud! And what a move it was! We hit all the things that go along with moving.

Packing: We decided where the stuff that we have always kept locally (with somewhat high IT costs) would go. To brainstorm we used Google Docs – allowing us to collaborate, make comments and updates real time.

Moving: We put all our stuff in the appropriate rooms. But better than “real” moving…we didn’t need to unpack anything. Each item was put exactly where we wanted!

Living in the new space: You know how, in the middle of the night, in your new house, you suddenly realize you forgot where the light switch was as you are making your way around? Gmail, Google sites and Google Docs are so intuitive it almost felt like we had installed those lights that turn on when you walk into a room!

The best part: Google updates in small increments and often so I am not waiting a year or more to pay lots of money for the newest release full of all the sparkly things I want! It’s like the house repainting itself, kinda.

Well, thanks for listening to this girl’s perspective (rev 1) on “Moving to the Cloud”
